Local Ordering of Molten Salts at NiO Crystal Interfaces Promotes High‐Index Faceting

چکیده

Given the strong influence of surface structure on reactivity heterogeneous catalysts, understanding mechanisms that control crystal morphology is an important component designing catalytic materials with targeted shape and functionality. Herein, we employ density functional theory to examine impact growth media NiO faceting in line experimental findings, showing molten-salt synthesis alkali chlorides (KCl, LiCl, NaCl) imposes selectivity particles. We find production octahedra attributed dissociative adsorption H2O, whereas formation trapezohedral particles associated kinetics exerted by ordered salt structures high-index facets. To our knowledge, this first observation inhibition metal-oxide facets occurs a localized ordering molten salts at crystal–solvent interface. These findings provide new molecular-level insight thermodynamics as predictive route shape-engineer crystals.

Polarography in Molten Salts

TYPES OF MELTS From the practical viewpoint, melts may be classified according to melting points which may limit the available techniques. The lowest melting, with working temperatures up to 250°, are typified by the LiNO3—NaNO3— KNO3 eutectic, NaNO3—KNO3 eutectic, LiClO4, and ammonium formate. With these solvents it is possible to use the dropping mercury electrode, or hanging mercury drop ele...

The Local Ordering of Molten LiNbOa by X-ray Diffraction

LiNbO a crystal has excellent electro-optical and non-linear optical properties [1, 2]. However local fluctuations of the refractive index and light scattering centers prevent a wider application of this material in optical devices. Since sub-grain boundaries seem to cause such inconvenience, the production of sub-grain free LiNbO a crystals is strongly required. Various properties of molten L ...

X-ray absorption study of the local structure at the NiO/oxide interfaces.

This work reports an X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) spectroscopy study at the Ni K-edge in the early stages of growth of NiO on non-ordered SiO2, Al2O3 and MgO thin films substrates. Two different coverages of NiO on the substrates have been studied. The analysis of the XANES region shows that for high coverages (80 Eq-ML) the spectra are similar to that of bulk NiO, being identic...

Molten Salts and Isotope Separation

The work on molten salts and isotope separation performed over the years at Université Pierre et Marie Curie and at Collège de France is critically reviewed. This research, closely related to A. Klemm’s pioneering contributions, leads among other things to the discovery of the effect now called the ‘Chemla effect’, after the late Professor Marius Chemla. These studies of ionic motions in melts,...

Molecular ordering of organic molten salts triggered by single-walled carbon nanotubes.

When mixed with imidazolium ion-based room-temperature ionic liquid, pristine single-walled carbon nanotubes formed gels after being ground. The heavily entangled nanotube bundles were found to untangle within the gel to form much finer bundles. Phase transition and rheological properties suggest that the gels are formed by physical cross-linking of the nanotube bundles, mediated by local molec...
